Christmas is almost here!!! I am unbelievably excited for my favourite time of year. And there is nothing more I love to eat at Christmas then this retro classic and absolutely delicious starter for Christmas lunch!
So I know everyone thinks that they can make a plain old prawn cocktail, well you think you do until this! I promise you, this is the best marie rose sauce recipe you will try – no way is it just mayo and ketchup, eugh!
So get your little kitch glassware out to serve and make this for everyone on Christmas day!
Recipe (serves 4)
400g prawns – I use small prawns – it’s the way I like it! But use large prawns if you want or use a mix of each
6 tbsp good quality mayonnaise
1/2 tbsp tomato puree
1/2 tsp celery salt
1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
juice of half a lemon
ground black pepper
2 little baby gem lettuce
1 avacado, sliced
2 ripe tomatoes, sliced in wedges
Paprika (optional)
Mix the mayonnaise, tomato puree, celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, lemon and some pepper together. Taste it and adjust the ingredients as you like it – it should be sharp and creamy.
Dress each serving plate with lettuce leaves, a 1/4 of the avocado, tomato wedges, then top with the prawns.
Spoon over the marie rose saucedand sprinkle over some paprika.
Enjoy for your Christmas lunch with your crackers and bucks fizz!
